Terms of Use.

These are the plain rules for using Place & Maker. By using the site, you agree to them.

What Place & Maker is

Place & Maker is a directory of independent makers, found by place. We help people find makers and the shops and galleries that carry their work. We never sell art. Anything you buy, you buy directly from the maker or the place, on their own terms, and that sale is between you and them.

Free to start

A listing in the atlas is free. We may change what we offer over time, including adding optional paid features. If a change affects what you already have, we’ll tell you ahead of time.

Your account

You need to be at least 18 to have an account. Keep your email address current, since that’s how you sign in, and look after access to it. You’re responsible for what you post. You can close your account at any time from your settings.

If you list your work

Every maker and place is reviewed before appearing in the atlas, and we may decline, pause or remove a listing. Everything you list must follow the community guidelines, including your promises that you make your own work.

Your work stays yours

You keep all rights to your work, photos and words. You give us permission to show them on Place & Maker and in the ways the site works, such as town pages, search and link previews, for as long as they’re on the site. Only upload what you own or have permission to use. If you say yes in your settings, we may also share your work, with credit, to promote the atlas, such as on social media and in email. You can change that at any time.

Using the site fairly

Please don’t pretend to be someone else, post anything unlawful or hateful, send spam, copy the directory in bulk, or try to break or get around how the site works. We may remove any listing or close any account that breaks these terms.

Stolen work

If you believe something here infringes your copyright, see our takedown page. We remove listings from people who repeatedly post work that isn’t theirs.

Other sites

Makers’ shops and other links lead to sites we don’t run, and we aren’t responsible for them.

The fine print

Place & Maker is offered as it is, and it may sometimes be unavailable or contain mistakes. Makers and places write their own listings, and we can’t promise that everything in them is accurate. As far as the law allows, we aren’t liable for losses that come from using the site, or from any purchase or dealing between you and a maker or place. Maryland law applies to these terms.

Changes

We may update these terms. If a change is important, we’ll let you know.
